The Museum of Bad Art Reimagining the home of art so bad you can’t look away.
Information
The Museum of Bad Art (MOBA) founded in 1993 Massachusetts is a museum like no other. Dedicated to showcasing art deemed “too bad to be ignored”, it celebrates and preserves works of art with significant technical or conceptual flaws. Often found in second-hand thrift shops or dumpsters, MOBA’s collections embody the phrase “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” and offers a refuge to art that would otherwise be homeless.
Inspired by the jarring artworks themselves, the new visual language puts the great mistakes, striking colour combinations, and wonky brush strokes at the centre of the branding. Alongside the tagline “Art too bad to be ingnored”, extreme crops and obscure angles are used to forever burn the artworks into the mind of the viewer, making them truly impossible to ignore. The museum’s greatest asset is its wonderfully unusual artwork, so the identity puts each piece front and centre. Every artwork invites curiosity, conversation and confusion.
The museums merch means everyone can take bad art with and inject some bad into the everday.
